Target Audience: Athletic Trainers CEU’s: Eligible for up to 2 Category A CEUs
  • New Hampshire Athletic Trainers’ Association (BOC AP# P305) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers.  This program is eligible for a maximum of 2 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

Christine Reyes is an assistant Professor and Clinical Education Coordinator for the Athletic Training Program at Colby-Sawyer College.  Learning Objectives Participants will be able to o   Appraise current organization and personal stressors for  frequency and source o   Assess their resiliency to organizational and personal  stressors utilizing the Brief Resiliency Scale o   Assess current coping mechanisms o   Implement effective coping strategies o   Create conversation pieces and taglines to address common  athletic training related personal and organizational stressors

NHATA Members – Free Athletic Training Students - Free Non- NHATA Members – $10 Refunds and Cancellations The New Hampshire Athletic Trainers’ Association (NHATA) is aware that life can happen and therefore will allow for a full refund of all monies associated with registration for all registrants who find they are unable to attend the event and cancel at least twenty-eight days ahead of the date of the event. Registrants cancelling registration between eight and twenty-seven days before the date of the event will only be refunded less 20% of registration fees. A refund will not be provided for any registration cancelled within the last seven days before the date of the event. All requests for cancellations must be made in writing by email to the NHATA Treasurer at treasurer@nhata.org . Any other form of cancellation will not be honored. If the NHATA must cancel the event due to low registration total or other administrative means registrants will receive a refund of all monies received. 8:00 - 10:30 am "Evidence Based Medicine in the Realm of Heat Stroke and Sudden Death" Presenter: Samantha Scarneo-Miller, PhD, ATC
Learning Objectives
    1. Attendees will be able to list and identify current best practices for the prevention of sudden death in sport, particularly exertional heat stroke in addition to steps to minimize sudden death in areas such as strength and conditioning sessions. 
    2. Attendees will be able to differentiate between acceptable means of temperature assessment in exercising individuals and the best cooling modalities to use in the event of exertional heat stroke.
    3. Attendees will develop strategies for implementing policies to keep athletes safe during sport and physical activity.
    4. Attendees will be able to recommend to their employers gaps in their current policy and procedures in dealing with possible cases of sudden death in sport. They will be able to provide evidence supporting implementation of heat acclimatization guidelines, appropriate assessment and treatment of exertional heat stroke, and AED policies to minimize the risk of sudden death in their setting. 
    5. Attendees will be able to gain hands on experience in appropriate methods and techniques used to acquire an accurate body temperature and implementation of cooling modalities in the event of an exertional heat stroke. They will also gain hands on experience in working with devices that assess environmental conditions (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature) that can be used to establish activity modifications during extreme conditions.
