Charles “Chuck” Carter
Originally from the state of Massachusetts I have been a resident of Tilton, NH for the last 12 years. My family and I enjoy all that New Hampshire offers from the Lakes Region to the Seacoast, Merrimack Valley to the White Mountains.
Like many of you I entered the career of Athletic Training as a former athlete curious about the amazing human body, an empathetic heart, and not quite ready to step away from the field of play. The profession gives me the opportunity to engage in the things I am passionate about, athletics, people, health, and the human body.
Over my career as a mentor and off site Clinical Instructor for Plymouth State University I have been able to watch young athletic training students move from text book based didactic instruction to utilizing evidence based learning and put it into practice. I know there are new and evolving theories being developed by veterans and rookies in classrooms and athletic training rooms in the state of NH.
As a veteran I have been able to draw on the knowledge and leadership of those who have preceded me. It is an exciting time for the profession.
I hope to be able to follow up on Chris Young’s efforts to have a state meeting for NH Athletic trainers. I hope these meetings will serve as a place where we can collaborate on a variety of topics. Perhaps most of all being able to defend ourselves from having our licensure removed by the legislature. The meeting should also be an opportunity to gain continuing education credits without leaving the state. Last but not least I hope it can be a social forum for the men and women who work as certified athletic trainers in New Hampshire.
I won’t profess that I am the best ATC or even know half of it all. Here is what I do know. Athletic Trainers are a vital part of the community. Those who are called are compassionate and dedicated individuals who are strongest when they work toward their a common goal.
