Ben Shuler’s candidate statement:

President Elect Candiate
Ben Schuler MS, ATC, N.H.LAT

I currently work as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Dartmouth College, covering the Men’s and Women’s Rugby programs, as well as the Women’s Alpine and Nordic skiing teams. Prior to my arrival at Dartmouth, I worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Troy University, in Troy, AL, where I earned my Master of Science in Sports and Fitness Management. I completed my undergraduate course work at the University of Central Florida, graduating Cum Laude in 2009.

While at Troy, I worked with Men’s and Women’s Track and Field, Men and Women’s Cross Country, and Women’s soccer. My work with the Troy University ATEP earned me honorary membership in the Iota Tau Alpha Honor Society. During my time at UCF and Troy University, I was an active member the South Eastern Athletic Trainers Association and the Athletic Trainers Association of Florida and Alabama Athletic Trainers Association, respectively. I attended various symposiums and events for both state associations, including the annual SEATA student symposiums. While at Troy University, I also assisted in editing the fourteenth edition of William E. Prentices’ Principles of Athletic Training: A Competency-Based Approach.

I am interested in working to develop the next generation of athletic trainers through serving as a preceptor for the Colby-Sawyer College Athletic Training Education Program. I currently host two students a year from Colby-Sawyer to work alongside myself with the Rugby programs.  I am also currently working with Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth on a concussion study evaluating the effects of moderate exercise on concussion recovery.

My professional interests include concussion evaluation and management, as well as sport specific rehabilitation. I am also interested in Athletic Training Legislation, including increasing public awareness about athletic training and protecting the licensure of Athletic Trainers in New Hampshire. I feel this is a vital part of furthering the profession.

I am an avid outdoors man. I also enjoy reading and spending time with my dog, Pete.
